FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Why is the BCom only 3 years (not 4)?
Australian bachelor's degrees are typically 3 years because they don't include the general education requirements of the US system. You go straight into your major from Year 1. This means you graduate a year earlier and save a year's tuition — while receiving the same professional qualification.
Can I work in Australia after graduating?
Yes. After a 3-year bachelor's, you can apply for a 2-year Temporary Graduate visa (subclass 485), which allows you to work full-time in any job. If you go on to complete a master's, you get an additional 2 years. Australian work experience can then count toward permanent residency through SkillSelect.
What is OSHC and is it expensive?
Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) is mandatory health insurance for all international students on a subclass 500 visa. It costs approximately A$600–$700 per year and covers hospital visits, GP appointments, and prescriptions. Your counsellor helps you arrange the best-value provider.
Can I do the Monash Diploma pathway?
Yes. If your grades are just below the direct-entry threshold, you can complete the Monash College Diploma of Business (8–12 months), which guarantees entry into Year 2 of the BCom. You graduate in the same total time and with the same Monash degree. Your counsellor advises on the best pathway.
How much can I earn working part-time?
Australia has one of the highest minimum wages in the world — A$24.10/hour. Working up to 48 hours/fortnight during term, you can earn approximately A$2,000/month, which covers a significant portion of your living costs. Many Monash students work in hospitality, retail, or tutoring.
