FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Is my university place really guaranteed?
Yes. NCUK guarantees a place at one of its 40+ partner universities when you complete the foundation year successfully (meeting the required grades). Your specific university and programme depend on your IFY results and IELTS score — your counsellor helps you choose and apply.
What if my IELTS is below 5.0?
Many NCUK centres offer pre-sessional English courses (typically 1–3 terms) to help you reach the required level before starting the foundation year. Your counsellor can recommend the right starting point based on your current English level.
Can I choose any subject for my degree?
NCUK offers four pathway tracks — Business, Engineering, Science, and Humanities. Each track prepares you for a range of related degrees. For example, the Business track leads to degrees in accounting, finance, management, economics, and marketing. Your counsellor helps you pick the right track for your goals.
Do I need a new visa when I start my degree?
Yes. You'll need a new CAS letter from your bachelor's university and a new Student Route visa. Your counsellor handles this transition seamlessly — many students report it's easier the second time around since they already know the process.
Is the foundation year worth it vs applying directly?
If your home-country qualifications aren't directly accepted by UK universities, a foundation year is the standard route. NCUK's advantage is the guaranteed university place — you avoid the uncertainty of direct applications. Many students also find their academic English and study skills improve significantly, setting them up for success in their degree.
