Overview
  • One of the few vet schools accredited by both EAEVE (EU) and AVMA (US)
  • English-taught, highly practical, with a long international tradition
  • Stipendium Hungaricum scholarships + a 9-month post-study permit

The DVM moves from anatomy, physiology and pathology into clinical medicine, surgery and rotations in the university's clinics and teaching farm. You'll work with companion animals, livestock and exotics, graduating a confident, clinically experienced veterinarian.

Because the degree carries dual EU + US accreditation, graduates can pursue licensing across Europe and North America (with local exams). Affordable tuition plus scholarships make it exceptional value for a global veterinary career.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Is the veterinary degree internationally recognised?
Yes — and unusually so. The University of Veterinary Medicine Budapest is accredited by both EAEVE (Europe) and the AVMA (United States), which means graduates can pursue licensing across the EU and North America. It's one of the few vet schools worldwide with dual accreditation.
Is it taught in English?
Yes — the DVM is delivered fully in English for international students, and the university has one of the longest traditions of English-language veterinary education in Europe. Basic Hungarian helps in clinical settings.
What are the entry requirements?
You need a strong high-school record with biology and chemistry, IELTS 6.0 (or equivalent), and you sit an entrance examination in biology and chemistry. Genuine interest in animals and a clear motivation help — your counsellor prepares you for the exam.
How practical is the training?
Highly. Alongside the sciences you work with animals from early on, progressing to clinical rotations in the university's clinics and teaching farm — so you graduate with substantial hands-on veterinary experience.
How affordable is Budapest?
Very. Budapest is one of Europe's most affordable capitals — budget roughly €600–€950/month all-in. The residence permit requires proof of about €500/month plus tuition, and students can work up to 24 hours per week.
